New Character and New Exposure
This
page was illustrated by me, but coloured by Bibi-Chan. ( A HUGE Thank
You to Bibi-Chan)
Before I start ranting, I must say I can hardly believe that January is
almost over… Lack of time was a problem that plagued the people in the
Victorian times, and it is still a problem for us today. Lack of time is
a sickness that will plague civilisation; at least according to John
Fowles.
Saru-Ji, Yoruki’s Grandfather makes his debut today! There had been a
lot of suspense over who is the new character to join the SKOOKUM!
story. Saru-Ji, I must add is one of the first characters I have
invented when I first conceived of SKOOKUM!, and I am glad he finally
made it today – for all to see.
Last week, with
the invitation of Hitonari, I manage to have my very very first
exhibition of SKOOKUM! Yes, readers would have remembered that I had
mentioned that I am planning to have my first SKOOKUM! booth at the
anime/manga/cosplay convention later this year. Although my exhibition
of SKOOKUM! is not strictly a publicity exhibition as such, I see it
more as a prelude to what I can expect of the convention.
All those who manage to make it down to the Nanyang Polytechnic Open
House, and manage to find their way to the Asia section would see the
booth. SKOOKUM! shares its space with the Origami, Models, Anonymous
Anime Artists and Japanese cultural games respectively; it is like
Manhattan, too much things going on in a very small space. Due to the
fact that it was not a predominantly SKOOKUM! event, I wondered if it
was right for me to “sell” SKOOKUM! and ignoring the others’ effort to
get attention as well. One thing for sure was that I made several new
friends there, all who shared a burning passion for everything and
anything Japanese.
My friends, Alwyn especially took time out and came down to NYP in
support of me, and I was really grateful for that. My long time friend
Elizabeth and her sister Shan came to the booth as well! I was thrilled
to see her! w’Note, my manager, of course, took time out of his really
busy schedule to take a look at the booth to “see what can be learnt
from the event”, and like Elizabeth, he brought his brother to take a
look at the booth as well. I got to agree with him the booth was not as
catchy as he hoped it will be, but I guess he is glad that it is a
start.
All in all I was tired but thrilled by the experience! Gotta thank
Hitoanri on this one, and I think in a way I am better prepared for the
real convention!
I need to apologise for the series of LATE uploadings… I am currently
into a crazy semester again, and I will certainly put in my all to
ensure that readers get their weekly dose of SKOOKUM!
