All Homage Page

I am sorry that I am one day late. My lateness can be explained perfectly. I am participating in a Open House. My pal, Dan had graciously invited me to take part in his Polytechnic’s (Technical College) Open House. I will tell all of you more next week.

This Page pays Homage to the major anime, manga and movies I have seen! Quentin Tarantino is the master of paying homage to movies, and I thought it is time for SKOOKUM! to have an all homage page as well! Ha!

Can you recognise the elements, aspects and characters I have paid homage to?

Ok, the little blue creature in front of the curtain is the creature “Pokute” (pronounced poke-tay) from the 2002 hit anime Jungle wa Itsumo Hare nochi Guu. In the anime, the Pokutes have a habit of appearing in the most unlikely and impossible of places. It never fails to crack me up, and I thought it best that I place a Pokute in Yoruki’s house. It’s not staying there for good though.

The hand parting the curtain from behind in the 4th panel, is actually a homage to Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban, when the first horrifying thing we see of the Dementors is the rotting hand pushing open the door of the cabin in which Harry, Ron, Hermione and Prof Lupin is sitting in. The action of parting itself has long been established as a symbolism representing the horror of the other.

The final panel, probably the most famous of all is the scene inspired by The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, when Frodo returns to Bag End after a few drinks, walks into his house finding that someone had been in these before him, and as he walks deeper into his house a hand appears from behind…

Unlike Frodo’s case, we know it’s Gandalf. Here in SKOOKUM!, who can it be?

Come back and find out.
