2005. Already?

It took me a while to realise that it is 2005 already. I mean 2004 was such awesome, unbelievable and impacting year that I can’t believe it had gone right by… I still feel a little of 2004 in me, the wealth of experience mixed with joys, fears sadness and knowledge. I must say a part of me will always remain in Chapel Hill, NC, together with the rich thread of friendship I forged there.

In another three days, SKOOKUM! will be celebrating its very first anniversary, so prepare for a L O N G rant next Friday. I have experienced so much with SKOOKUM!, although not all of them are pleasant, (i.e. problems with the previous server) I must say that I have learnt a lot in the process of drawing SKOOKUM! I have never ever foreseen myself as a web-manga artist, I have always been striving to be a publishing artist – but as Gandalf said in The Return of The King, “Foreseen has done nothing.”

SKOOKUM! is moving into its main story frame, right after this page and encounter with Miles. I understand that some readers had found it hard to accept Yoruki as such a bad person. I make no excuse for him, and I have kinda made it clear that Yoruki, despite of his charm is not a very nice person at all. He is a punk and he is self-righteous. But like all characters, there is room for redemption.

Before I end off, it’s time to make resolutions! I hope 2005 will be a better year for SKOOKUM! and I strive to produce higher quality drawings and colouring, to please my readers and potential readers better. Yes, I do know that my drawings are not as good as some of the web-manga I see on the Internet. Ironically, some better drawn web-manga fare worse than I in terms of ranking – so where exactly does the Web-manga reader place the limits? I always find that it is so much easier to draw for published manga. All you need is a strong story and decent artwork to gain a reasonable group of readers… it’s so much harder to be a successful Web-manga artist! Then again, what does “success” mean to a web-manga artist? Will one be able to buy a car? A house in San Diego? An apartment on 81st Street in Manhattan, New York? None of those. This is something to really to think about.

To all my readers, wish you a Happy New Year and a Prosperous 2005!
