COUp (UNC-CH Anime Club)

YES. It is true. I made it for the Tuesday update! I made it! Yay! Okay, it is quite late into Tuesday, but what the hell. I still made it in!

First I got to thank w’Note for the laborious task of taking over the uploading job back in Singapore. Yeah, what did you guys think? That I uploaded up here? The computers in the library have WS_FTP, yet they don’t have the FrontPage tool bar. Drats! Thanks Man!

In case you guys are wondering. “What the fuck?” Yup, boobs can be quite dangerous sometimes, especially when they are of a massive scale. I have seen boobs done real damage in real life, Joan is just taking the usefulness of her boobs a step further.

If my writing looks rushed to you in the past two updates, you can pride yourself to know that I DID write the rants under severe rushed conditions and they don’t exactly read coherently. Unless of course, you don’t even bother reading what I wrote; which happens pretty often. So it won’t bother you if I did put in some time and effort to write this rant well…

So, there is an Anime Club right here in UNC-CH, and they call themselves COUp or the Carolina Otaku Uprising. “Otaku”, if you don’t already know is a common slang for an anime fonder. You bet I was excited by this, I haven’t so much read or seen anytime except Shonen Jump which I brought from Singapore and Spongebob which I watched on TV. I NEED Anime!

The COUp met at Manning Hall, right behind Lenoir Hall, which happens to be my dining hall as well. I have my dinner there every night with my friends whom I met here. I was new, and I could tell that this was a wild club. People began talking and laughing over anime the moment I stepped into the hall, which is rather big, by the way. I didn’t immediately spoke to anyone as they were really busy involving themselves in some private joke. Soon enough the executive members of the COUp stepped in and after a few announcements about our programme for the night, they went straight into screening 6 animes of diverse genres. What made me go absolutely wild was the fact that the anime they screened were very recent animes!

Like Midori no Hibi, MONSTER, Mo Zou Dai Rin Nin AKA Paranoia Agent, Kino’s Travels and Dear Brother. Dear Brother, is a fairly old anime, produced in the early 80s, and it is littered with the usual cliché of early anime. Yet, it is relevant to UNC-CH since it is as delicately put by one of our head members, about “a group of girls joining the wrong fucking sorority house, and get fucked real bad by the string of bitches, who plans to get one of the characters out of the fucking sorority house. You’ll never see so many bitches, ever, in one go.” Profanities here are used in great abundance, but that did not at all reduce the fun of the night!

This got to be a anime paradise, great crowd, great anime and a great hall with superb sound system! For a while, it feels like home. I said “feel”, because this Hall is not home, but for the three hours, I felt very comfortable in it. I even made two new friends, Scott and E-Mei. Scott’s from Florida (Which is currently under the tyranny of Hurricane Frances) and I don’t quite know where’s E-Mei from, but does it matter when she’s one cool girl?!

If all goes well, do come back Friday for the next update of SKOOKUM! We’re getting there man, we’re moving towards the climax of the battle!
